After Anime Expo-slash-EVO 2017 Post
Too Emotional For Words

Hello again, Giga-Landers! Hope you’re doing well after so many weeks alone!
It’s been a crazy couple of weeks and I haven’t had the capacity to post due a couple of reason, the second of which I’ll explain in the second section. First, obviously, was because of Anime Expo 2017! For the 9th year in a row I attended the esteemed Anime Expo hosted at the Los Angeles, CA convention center! It’s the one time of year where I get a chance to get away from home for five days, hang around Little Tokyo, and “weab out” with the rest of my kind. This year, I had a different partner-in-crime and we were able to pick out all the Fate/Grand Order cosplayers and geek out to our hearts’ content!
It was definitely fun watching Fate grab such a strong foothold in America like it has. I’m happy a lot of the people, even those who’ve never heard of it before, start playing the game out of pure curiosity. However, it is easy to tell who the newbie or bandwagoners are. Not to sound like a pompous asshole, that’s the last thing I want, trust me. But, you can tell because of who they cosplay as, or who their favorite characters are. Answer: Vanilla Saber (Blue Saber). Either way, Anime Expo was a great time and I had a lot of fun seeing my buddies there and wasting my hard-earned money on useless novelty items. Go me!
Here’s hoping to one more year, my 10th year, of AX with my friends before I hit my dirty-thirty! Is it bad that I already feel old. . . ?
Also, EVO 2017 happened! I’m too emotional to talk about it right now (overreaction), but I highly suggest checking out the SF5 Finals. Punk!! Wherever you are, I AM ROOTING FOR YOU BROTHER!
NOW ON TO ANIME!
The second reason I didn’t post last week is because I had finally posted my anime review article for Spring 2017.
If we’re being 100% honest, I enjoyed the heck out of Little Witch Academia more than a lot of other shows which surprised me because it was made by Studio Trigger. You’ll know them from such “hits” (he said with sarcasm in his voice) like Kill la Kill or Inou-Battle. Neither of those two really did it for me, but I think Little Witch really hit a good note for most people, despite being a little under the radar this year. It was fun, whimsical, cute, and dammit that “Trigger Twist” was so much better than anything else they’ve ever done. They really outdid themselves this time and I highly recommend checking it out. If it helps, it’s on Netflix!
This new season is shaping up to be a real joy as well. There are a TON of anime that are worth watching. The top of my list is taken by Fate/Apocrypha, obviously. But, A-1 Pictures is doing an amazing job of making it easy to watch, even for people who have no idea what Fate is. Another favorite this season is Knight’s and Magic and, yes, the improper apostrophe is there in the anime as well. Or maybe something will come in and make it proper? It’s another Issekai show but it involves more robots than magic. The only thing stopping it from being truly great is the awful narrator. No, I don’t like being treated like I’m stupid. . .
Anyway, that’s it for me today, Giga-Friends. I hope you have a wonderful day and an even better week! -J.R
