Still Not Done Gushing About Summer Anime!

Also, More Reading!

Monday, Oct. 16th

Hello again, my Giga-Friends! I hope you had a good week last week as I wasn’t around to make it a little better. There, there. I’m here now to make it all better.

Anyway, I took a break last week, partially due to my hectic work schedule, mostly due to the fact that I was all “written out”. I ended up doing three articles the week prior on anime from the Summer season. Boy, oh boy, that was a fun week. I really enjoyed a lot of anime from last season and I’m hoping this season has something good to offer as well. More on that later though.

Did I ever mention how much I appreciate the artwork in the Light Novel of “Rising of the Shield Hero”? It just feels so delicate and like it’s pieced together just right. . .

I’ve steadily been working on my back log of games, or, I should say “slowly”. Incredibly slowly. ONE DAY! ONE DAY I WILL FINISH PERSONA 5! I promise. Anyway, I’ve also, as always, been working on Fate/Grand Order and loving every minute of it, though it is turning into more of a Visual Novel than a mobile game! Which, I love by the way. The characters are steadily getting more complex and the introduction of new characters from different realms of possibility being thrown in to the mix really brings out a certain kind of complexity that makes every feel not just fun, but deep.

On the other hand, I’ve been very, very quickly reading through the “Rise of the Shield Hero” light novel series. Since one specific building I work at has terrible reception and almost no workers, I have plenty of time to sit down and read. And read I shall! While the series won’t win any hi-and-mighty awards in writing or anything anytime soon, but it’s just absolutely fun to read. The way the story plays out, how the characters interact, and all the twists in the story really just make for a fun read. The English version of the Light Novel has a few spelling and syntax errors here and there, but nothing that will completely stop you from reading the books. As a side note: after reaching the fifth book, I’ve noticed that the writing has gotten considerably better than the previous four. Whether this is due to actual Japanese writer getting better, or the English translators and writers taking a step up, I don’t know. But, I do know that the quality is steadily increasing!

 NOW ON TO ANIME!

I really love Lyza’s design as well, despite her not being in the anime much. It feels almost delicate, but powerful. Not to mention she’s really pretty!

Like I mentioned, I spent the week before last just writing my butt off on the Season of Summer 2017’s Anime! Though I don’t know how amazing they are, I am fairly proud of them, how quickly I was able to churn them out, and how much effort I put into them. As an act of shameless self-plugging, I am now going to link those articles! /shameless

First Article of our top three draft picks: Ballroom e Youkoso, Isekai Shokudou, and Keppeki Danshi! Aoyama-kun.

Second Article of our draft picks that didn’t go over so well: Knight’s & Magic, Fate/Apocryha, and Vatican Kiseki Chousakan.

And my Final Article of my favorite and ostensibly best anime of last season: Made in Abyss (THE BEST), Gamers!, Princess Principal, and Tsurezure Children.

I honestly really enjoyed Made in Abyss last season and, in terms of overall quality, it was ostensibly the best show of last season. It had everything! Great character development, deep characters, comedy, amazing foreshadowing, unpredictable yet deep story, a cohesive group of protagonists, great contrast, fantastic artwork especially regarding the backgrounds and architecture, and hi quality animation!  I highly recommend it to EVERYONE, and I genuinely can’t recommend it enough!

Anyway, that’s it for me today, Giga-Friends! I hope you have a wonderful day and an even better week! -J.R
