Square-Enix Needs More Zack

It’s always a little tough for me to get started on the journals. I always want to find a way to segue into anime off the bat, but that isn’t all my life is. I totally veg out and play games too! Also, I have a job. And, maybe sometimes, I have friends who want to do things . . . OUTSIDE! . . . The sun is overrated.
Speaking of overrated (I DID IT! segue complete), Final Fantasy VII (HD) has been announced for the PS4. I’d love to say I’m excited about it, but I’m having a little trouble with that. They -say- it’s going to be an HD version of the game, but the characters are still going to have square-shaped hands, no facial features, polygon bodies, and ever-so-slightly bumped up graphics for cutscenes. HD my butt. . . I’d love to see an actual remake of FF7. It’s one of the games that really got me into RPGs when I was young and I still have very fond memories of playing it with my little brother. But, at this point, it just seems like Square-Enix is milking everything they can in an attempt to make back the money that the infamous Yoichi Wada lost. So, if you want to play that game again, with the same graphics, then Spring probably can’t come fast enough. To us who have already played it a BAZILLION times, we’ll probably just wait until they remake it to look like Advent Children. Seriously, how funny would that cross-dressing scene be!?
In more RPG news, Tales of Zestiria is coming out next month, which definitely has me excited. Forgetting the abomination of Tales of Hearts: R, the newest title looks like it’s taking a whole new direction with the franchise. I’m excited to see what kind of exploration elements they’re going to be implementing and I will definitely be getting it in Japanese, if anything just to practice a little. The English version has been promised sometime next year as well. Hopefully sooner, rather than later, as the English-speaking Tales of fans are very dedicated bunch.
P.S The main character’s name was revealed as “Sorrey” which is, by far, of the stupidest names I’ve heard from the franchise. I’ll probably stick to calling him “Slay”, like the original though on the name was. Seriously, just say “Sorrey” out loud and hear how dumb it sounds.
NOW ON TO ANIME!
I always talk about Log Horizon, and today will be no different. Last weeks episode was basically “William: The Monologue”. You could seriously skip this episode and miss absolutely nothing. But, if you’re a long time MMORPG player, I would suggest watching it. He talks a lot about several points of being an avid MMO-er that seriously hit close to home (with me). Being ridiculed because you have “fake friends” or waste your time on something that “doesn’t matter”. I played WoW and Final Fantasy XI for a very long time and I got made fun of for it as well. But, I still have several friends from my MMO days that I still talk to. So, hearing William sum-up what it is to be a gamer, and why it’s O.K to play games, kinda got me a little chocked up, even if some of it was just strange rationalization.
Also, I’ll have to retract my previous statement about Inou-Battle being a super-powered battle anime. I was wrong (slightly). It looks like it’s going to be a full on harem anime now too!. . . I’m still watching it, and enjoying the comedy, but I can’t say I’m terribly impressed with the direction it’s going. But, if you like harem anime, now is your time to take charge and pick a waifu! (I already picked the Student Council President.)
One I haven’t talked about before is Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de aru. Like I said in our anime articles, I did absolutely zero research on anything and it was all chosen for me. So I had no idea what to expect when four girls part of the “Hero Club” at school was supposed to entail. I’d originally thought that it was going to be a slice-of-life anime about four girls getting along and trying to help people out, a bit like Sket Dance. With the side of one girl being paralyzed from the waist down, I was ready for girly emotions to flow. The magical girls. Not even kidding.
If you like magical girl genres, I would suggest this one: Fantastic animation, cute characters, slice-of-life in between, and cute little fairy/helpers. The music is like something you’d hear from the Ar Tonelico series or Yuki Kaijura, which is a huge plus in my book. I’m a little upset I didn’t get around to reviewing it earlier, but I will do a final review on it this season. It’s not the best thing I’ve seen, but for what it is, I kinda like it.
