Pretending to Know About Economics. . .!
Stuff About Anime and Games!

Monday, Oct. 19th –
Hello again Giga-Friends! Hope you all are having a great Monday! I know mine has been pretty busy. I’ve recently picked up a second job, thanks to the kind Marines down here in San Diego. OOH-RAH! So I won’t have much of a social life anymore . . . not that I had much of one in the first place. Ouch.
Anyway, I recently finished my second, and final, article for the Summer Anime line-up. I covered the 2-cour anime that I, and pretty much everyone else, loved this time. Shokugeki no Souma was bloody amazing, which I’m sure our repeat readers have never heard me say before, and Ore Monogatari!! was absolutely adorable. I’ve already talked a lot about these two anime before, and I’d prefer that you at least read (or even just click . . . shameless plugs again!) my article anyway, just because it’s damn awesome.
David and I talked a lot about the good and bad of anime nowadays. Japan’s economic situation aside, it seems like most companies can’t afford for anime to run for too long anymore. So, things like Souma or (I’m hoping) One Punch Man might not get the second season they deserve. It seems like it’s a more lucrative path to just “show off” the anime, then create a bunch of merchandise based on it. Then companies can gauge how popular it is to see if a second season is feasible. Well, that’s it in the tiniest of nutshells. The point being, I really hope we see a second season of Souma. It deserves more than just a “Show Pony” treatment. Though, I may be just the smallest amount of bias. Maybe.
On the gaming side of things, Tales of Zestiria comes out tomorrow! If you’ve read these Giga-Journals before, you know David and I weren’t fans and the game had a plethora of faults that were nearly insurmountable in the quest to beat the game. That being said, I’m buying it again. . . Anything to help the business, right? Anyway, I’m gonna try to beat it and maybe do a review on that too. Assuming I have the time to do so. . . I haven’t even beat MGS V yet. . .
. . .
NOW ON TO ANIME!
Last time was Gundam, this time is Noragami Aragoto. I’m pleasantly surprised that it got a second season, as it wasn’t insanely popular to begin with. The first season was about Yato, the wandering god, who would grant any prayer for only five yen. He comes into contact with a girl who occasionally becomes dismbodied and the spirit of a young boy who becomes his weapon. It wasn’t terribly droll, using mostly “monster of the week” approaches. But, it had a good twist with a surprisingly deep father-son story added to it later on. I talk about it more in-depth here in my article (more plugs!).
This new season is about Bishamonten, a god who despises Yato beyond all reason. It shows how she handles spirits, like Yukine, whom she saves and then houses to protect from phantoms. Her deep caring for these spirits might be her greatest weakness because, as a god, she can feel all of her Regalias’ negative emotions. If these negative feelings become strong enough, it can poison her. This is where the new story takes place and, even three episodes in, it’s already getting intense and I’ve already had to hold back a few tears. I won’t be doing a initial review on it, since it’s a second season, but I do suggest at least checking it out.
Anyway, that’s it for me on today. I hope you have a great Monday and an even better week! -J.R
